But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
(I Corinthians 2:9)
I think that whether you are a parent or a child you can relate to this. If you as a parent had all the power in the world to do with whatever you wanted, would not your first thought be to supply all things you’re your children? I’m not a father yet, but I know I’d feel less of one if I had a child and I couldn’t give them every need, every want and every desire. If I couldn’t comfort them, it would hurt me. If I couldn’t be with them it would destroy me. If they ever came to me and asked me for anything, I wouldn’t feel right unless I could give it to them. This is how it is with our Father the Lord God Almighty. He is the all knowing, omnipotent, omnipresent Father of us all. And he has promised to give us all we desire, more than even we could imagine. He has promised to always comfort us. He has promised to never leave us. All we have to do is ask of Him and He will do it. And he only asks one thing of us, that we be obedient to his word and that we believe He can do all these things. Just like a normal father, if we’re not obedient to God then he won’t be obligated to do anything for us. Fortunately, like most good fathers, our Father God shows us grace and mercy every day. But if a child tells his father he’s lost faith in his ability to support the family and no longer wants to obey him; that father will be less likely to do the things his child asks of him. Such is the case with God our Father.
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
