Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
(I TIMOTHY 4:12-16)
I will never understand why children want to grow up so fast. We should be enjoying our youth, because that is when we should be growing the most. This is when the Lord should be speaking to us the most and teaching us his word. This is the time we should be studying his word and learning the desire he has for us. But instead we want to be quick to do what the “grown ups” do. Sadly most of the things the “grown ups” do aren’t any more mature than children. Wouldn’t it be so amazing if as children we could learn who we are in Christ and the life we are supposed to live because of him? Wouldn’t it be nice that instead of sleeping around, getting drunk, doing drugs and obsessing ourselves with sports, we could learn as children that God wants us prosperous, with perfect health and full of peace? Maybe then the suicide rate of children wouldn’t be growing every year by 400%. Maybe then parents wouldn’t be so obsessive with their children playing sports. Maybe then children wouldn’t be having babies. Maybe then we’d be raising young men and women, instead of little boys and girls who don’t know the first thing about standing on their own two feet.
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
(II TIMOTHY 3:15)
If we taught our children more about God and less about the world, then maybe we could be proud of what they’ve become instead of being ashamed of the generation we have created.
